Product detail: Beh Kwang Chee Enterprise Sdn Bhd (BKC) was established in 1950 by Mr Beh Yew Jin, a chinese herbalist from Guang Dong Province who migrated to Malaysia in 1936. The lack of chinese herbal formulations in Malaysia then led him to concoct his famous herbal tea in 1949. A creative businessman, he understood the value of convenience and thus sold the tea in the form of powder so that consumers could enjoy the drink without the need to brew the numerous herbs he used. A firm believer in the health benefits of almond, he used almonds in many of his products, all of which combined his knowledge of herbs with the convenience of pre-packaged availability. From a small shop house in rural Sungai Petani in 1948, the company grew to become the leading producer of almond powder in Malaysia with a 1,300 hectare manufacturing facility. Although he passed away in 1973, his vision and foresight continue to be borne by his sons who currently manage the operations.
