SPECIFICATIONS | Florfenicol is a bactericide with a wide chemotherapeutic spectrum and is a member of the quinolone group of compounds. |
DESCRIPTION | Florfenicol is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria isolated from domestic animals. Florfenicol acts by inhibiting protein synthesis at the ribosomal level and is bacteriostatic. Laboratory tests have shown that florfenicol is active against the most commonly isolated bacterial pathogens involved in bovine respiratory disease which include Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni and Arcanobacterium pyogenes, and against the bacterial pathogens most commonly isolated in respiratory diseases in pigs, including Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida. |

INDICATIONS | The use of florfenicol is indicated for enteral and systemic infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae and pasteurella spp. Specific indications for calves are: Respiratory tract infections caused by pasteurella spp and salmonella spp; enteritis caused by salmonella spp and E.coli. Specific indications for pigs are: Respiratory tract infections caused by Pasteurella spp and actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae; Specific indications for poultry are: Respiratory tract infections caused by Pasteurella multocida. |
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION | For subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. Cattle: Swine: 1 ml per 20 kg body weight (IM), twice at a 48-hour interval. ¨ It is recommended to treat animals in the early stages of disease and to evaluate the response to treatment within 48 hours after the second injection. ¨ If clinical signs of respiratory disease persist 48 hours after the last injection, treatment should be changed using another formulation or another antibiotic and continued until clinical signs have resolved. ¨ Note: Introflor-300 is not for use in cattle producing milk for human consumption. |
WITHDRAWAL TIMES: | ¨ Cattle: 30 days (IM route). ¨ Swine: 18 days. |
STORAGE | Protect from light and seal tightly. It is recommended to store in a dry place at normal temperature. |
WARNINGS | l Cattle and sheep must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 21 days of last treatment. l Pigs must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 28 days of last treatment. l Do not use in dairy cattle within 28 days before calving where milk or milk products are intended for human consumption. l Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. |
PRECAUTIONS
