The below is a picture of bio diesel (methyl esters) <here , we call the oil” BD”> . The sample on the left is the BD before bleaching and the sample on the right is the same BD treated with Grade “E” clay. The sample was taken to 73.9C ( 165F) and 5% (by weight) of clay was added with mixing. Retention time at 73.9C ( 165F) was maintained for 30 minutes. Sample was allowed to cool and filtered with vacuum through DE (diatomaceous earth).
Left to Right: Unbleached oil BD, Grade “A” clay, Grade” B” clay, Grade “D” clay, Grade “E” clay all at 165F for 30 minutes. All samples ---oil BD.
Left to right: ”D” grade clay at 2.5% weight addition, “D” 5% weight addition all at 165F for 30 minutes.
Left to right: ”E” grade clay at 2.5% by weight addition, “E” grade clay at 5% by weight addition, all at 165F with 30 minute retention.
