OUR DESIGNER -- DESAK NYOMAN SUARTI

Like the delicate Balinese Shadow Puppet that projects an awesome imposing image on screen, Suarti's creative talent is larger than life. Through her international stature as an award-winning and critically acclaimed artist, dancer, jewelry designer, and musician, Suarti has projected the culture of Bali to the world.

Suarti designs celebrate the movement of dance, the rhythm of gamelan music, traditional craftsmanship, nature, the ceremonies of her culture, and the architectural motifs found in her homeland.

THE SPIRIT AND TECHNIQUE BEHIND THE JEWELRY

The Balinese believe that to create art and craft is to celebrate and give thanks to the spiritual world.
Every element in Suarti's designs is infused with powerful meaning - like the Tulang Naga design which represents the skeleton of a snake with a dragon's head - a symbol of mystical power and postive energy, or the Borobudur design taken from the ancient temple of the same name in Java, or even the flower motifs that represent the beautiful blessed flowers one wears in their hair while in Bali.

There are shells in Bali that look like they have beading - like the granulation in the jewelry referring to an ancient method of jewelry making where small pieces of silver are heated until they pop into perfect silver beads. Each bead is placed on the jewelry by hand, only the artisans of Bali, who Suarti relies upon to realize her designs, do this granulation technique.
